Fun Friday!!!

Today is the day that my kiddos look forward to all week long...Fun Friday!

They look forward to this day because of the games that we play, the fun lunches, and oh...it is quiz day.  Yes, you heard me right, my kids look forward to taking quizzes all because I named the quiz day Fun Friday.  Well, that and the bribes that I offer them.

Let me explain how this works.

Every Fun Friday in the early part of the day (10:00 -12:00 noon) I administer the spelling test and math quiz for the week.  They may have an additional quiz depending on what type of curriculum we covered that week.  They look forward to it because of the prizes that they can earn.  I keep a little basket full of "sacred" dollar store items.  They are deemed sacred so that they are not touched at any other time other than "the picking of the prize" (spoken in my deepest game show host announcer voice).  

This makes it SPECIAL!  There are all sorts of trinkets in there, even money!  For my older son, hand  written certificates for special lunches since he can't seem to say no to any type of fast food.  I also have "day off" certificates for certain chores, which he also treasures.

After tests and quizzes are complete we have lunch, whether that's at home or we go out, and then it's on to fun and games.  I utilize the Wii for most of our Fun Friday games simply because they have several different interactive and educational games.  Like Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader, My Word Coach, Smarty Pants, and Big Brain Academy.

We also do board games, such as Scrabble, Monopoly or the Allowance Game, and Chess.  Sometimes we will pop popcorn and watch an education related movie like Akeelah and the Bee.  

Fun Friday is also usually the day that I will schedule field trips and special events if applicable.

As you can probably tell, we have a lot of fun with this and I LOVE it because it's just plain productive...who doesn't like having fun while learning??? (That's retorical, don't answer that).
