FuN FeLt FaCe PuZzLe Tutorial

Here's a quick and easy activity that is as fun to play as it is to make.

What you will need:
~Different colored felt sheets (I bought mine is skin toned colors, shades of brown and tan.  Also, I grabed a sheet of white and black for the details).
~Some Fabric scissors
~A pencil and/or markers
~Straight pins
~Thin paper

Draw out an oval shape for the face onto your paper using a pencil or marker.  I drew mine in marker so that it was a bit more visible for this tutuorial.

Cut out your shape and pin it to your choosen shade of felt to create the face.  Once it is pinned to the felt you can begin cutting out your face.

Next...

It's time to create your features.  You'll need a smaller oval shape (white felt) for the sclera...see you're learning stuff already.  Next, a large circle for the Iris (any eye color felt) and a small circle for the pupil (black felt).  Also, you'll need to cut out the shapes for eyebrows and eyelashes in your choosen colored felts.  You'll need two of each of these shapes.  To make the process easier, you can fold your felt pieces in half to cut them out.

I just cut little slits into the rectangle that I'd cut for the eyelashes.

And here are all the pieces put together on the face. Next, you'll need a nose, lips, and ears to complete your felt face puzzle.  I cut mine out without a template but if you'd feel more comfortable using a template you should definitely make one.

I liked the idea of using different shades of brown for certain parts of my face to help the pieces stand out.  I also made every part of the face a little over-sized for my tots little hands.

There are several ways you can play with this.  We are using it to identify parts of the face for now, but you can make others to use with social-emotional work...teaching angry, sad, happy, excited, etc.  Also,  different colored ones can be made for cultural awareness.

Can you think of other ways to use these super cute felt faces?  Let me know...Also, I'd love to see yours, so remember to come back and share a link in the comments.
